Sugarloaf Social Club

Sugarloaf Social Club

In 2011, Sugarloaf Social Club was conjured up by a consortium of former college roommates looking for an excuse to stay linked by their mutual love for golf. Rather than obsessing over destination courses, founder Ian Gilley found deeper enjoyment in uncovering a game that was a little more accessible, sometimes low brow, and ultimately an antithesis to the manicured country club fairways.

Through the last decade, Sugarloaf has built an inclusive community of open-minded players dedicated to the preservation of such golf sanctuaries across America. The 'Hidden Gem Project Map' consolidates these places for everyone to discover for themselves and enjoy at their leisure. Whether a diamond in the rough or a favourite local stomping ground, the prerequisite for each selected course is that it brings with it an imperfect charm, architectural intrigue, and above all a democratic approach to an otherwise stuffy pastime.

Gilley's passion for exploring every nook and cranny of the golf world has resonated among players who share the same sentiments. With his assistance, we delve back into the Sugarloaf archives and relive scenes from his solo three-day journey through Nebraska's municipal courses.
