In the Details with Vicente Muñoz
Episode 3
Tennis has never been confined to the court for Vicente. Pro Shop NYC is the brainchild of this sentiment—a reflection of the world he loves: the objects, references, and ideas that continue to shape how the game is seen today. "There are archetypes of players both stylistically and aesthetically that I continue to go back to. And I think we’re living that moment right now," Vicente says.
Pro Shop sits somewhere between gallery, concept store and creative studio, looking at tennis through the culture that has always existed around the game. Its perspective draws heavily from the sport's past, but never as an exercise in nostalgia. The references are familiar; what Vicente does with them feels distinctly current.
He credits more to tennis than the traditional tropes of sport. The solitude of facing an opponent across the net—what Vicente describes as the "gladiatorial effect"—shapes his approach to both work and life. As he puts it, "It's about finding space within the lines of the court to create opportunity and to continue to thrive."
For Vicente, that search for space has extended well beyond the baseline.
